The UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group for Africa, supported by the Royal African Society and Oxfam, is undertaking a new parliamentary policy inquiry into UK-African Partnerships and Just Energy Transitions. groundWork made a submission to the group relating on-the-ground experiences of the JT in South Africa. Drawing heavily from the groundWork report 2022: Contested Transitions, the submission provides in-detail narration of the current policy process in the country. It addresses the historic and current power relations, the capture of the JET-IP by big business, the PCC’s role, and the unjust transition we are witnessing in towns across South Africa.
