It is a principles-driven NGO with committed and capable staff who make a significant contribution to building the environmental justice movement in South Africa and on the continent, and to holding government and corporates accountable.

Based in Pietermaritzburg or Durban, South Africa  – groundWork seeks to appoint an

AFRICA COAL NETWORK (ACN) ADMINISTRATOR

 The ACN was established in 2019, and it is well recognised in the region and beyond. It works with over 80 organisations in 24 African countries and continues to strengthen and support various national and grassroots coal struggles, bringing them together through various platforms.

The position of Administrator for the ACN, is for an energetic team player and a meticulous organiser, with at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in an administrative or programmatic support role, and who has a passion for environmental justice, particularly within the African context.

The Administrator will report to and be accountable to the ACN Coordinator and the groundWork Administration Team.

The ACN Administrator will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:

  • Assist with the implementation of the ACN’s programme, projects and events;
  • Organise various events for the ACN programme, including workshops, conferences and webinars;
  • Assist with logistical arrangements including travel bookings, accommodation, transport, venue bookings, catering, speakers, interpreters, and the dissemination of materials;
  • Assist with minute taking and follow-up actions, when called upon;
  • Assist with enquiries and requests received from network members, communities and community partners;
  • Provide onsite administrative support during meetings, workshops, trainings, etc.;
  • Provide financial administrative support to ensure compliance with groundWork’s financial policies;
  • Provide assistance to the network’s operational team;
  • Assist with the upkeep of ACN’s web and social media pages; and
  • Work outside normal working hours when required.

 

The ACN Administrator must meet the following criteria:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or experience with a focus on administration;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ working experience in an administrative or programmatic support role;
  • Work experience with similar non-profit organisations will be advantageous;
  • Strong work organising skills that ensure time bound deliveries will be met;
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Fluency in French – oral and written; basic fluency in Portuguese is also preferable, but not essential.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Web-based system (e.g. Sharepoint), Googledrive, Teamwork and other relevant platforms
  • A commitment to high-quality support to the team;
  • Occasional travel for events and projects;
  • Be willing to work as part of a dynamic and varied team;
  • Have a current driving license (Code 8 or 10); and
  • Demonstrate a commitment to groundWork’s vision, mission and values.
